Chartreuse de Mélan

Between history and contemporary art

Situated in Taninges, in the heart of the Giffre Valley, the Chartreuse de Mélan is an iconic site in Haute-Savoie. Founded in the 13th century by Béatrix de Faucigny, this former Carthusian monastery is now home to a remarkable collection of contemporary sculptures, offering visitors a unique experience that blends history, culture and nature.

Between history and culture A site steeped in over 700 years of history

Founded at the end of the 13th century, the Chartreuse de Mélan has had several incarnations over the centuries. Initially a convent, it later became a religious college, then a departmental orphanage, before being transformed into a cultural site. Visitors can now explore the church and cloister, which bear witness to its rich monastic past. Outside, the contemporary sculpture garden invites visitors to take a fresh look at this unique place, where historical heritage and artistic creation coexist in harmony.

The Carthusian monastery is open to the public from 5 April to 2 November inclusive.
