Description
Its history began in 1832, when the final design by the Annecy architect Ruphy, an ardent propagator of the Neoclassical style, was adopted.
In keeping with the fashion that had arrived from Turin, the main aim was to create a grandiose structure inspired by the monuments left by the Romans. It was designed to house 2,000 people, in a period of rapid population growth in the countryside. In 1836, Valsesia painters Laurent and Joseph Avoudo were commissioned to decorate the interior. Of particular note are two large frescoes depicting two episodes from the life of Saint-Blaise: the healing of a child who had swallowed a fishbone, and the martyrdom of the saint. The church was consecrated by Mgr Rey in 1837.
