Guided tour of a goat farm located at l'Alpage de Sommier d'Aval.
The Cabrettes Farm offers two locations:
1) At Le Reposoir: the Sommier d’Aval Alpine Pasture (through September 3): Toni is happy to give you a tour of his goat farm, including a guided, narrated tour of the goat pens and the process of making Chevrotin (followed by a demonstration of how the milk is turned into cheese). Production and sale of Chevrotin (A.O.P.), Tomme de chèvre, and Sérac.
- Free guided and narrated tour on Mondays and Thursdays starting at 3:00 p.m.; goat milking at 5:15 p.m.
- Cheese sales at the chalet every day.
- Access by foot only: allow 45 minutes on foot from the Lanche parking lot (approximately 1.3 km and 200 m elevation gain) or 1 hour on foot from Vallon (approximately 2.1 km and 280 m elevation gain).
In the village, head toward Le Carmel (monastery) and follow signs for “Parking de la Lanche.”
- Be sure to wear closed-toe hiking shoes.
2) In Sallanches (Nov. 1–May 15):
- Free guided tour with commentary on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Cheese sales (Chevrotins AOP—silver medalist at the 2015 CGA Paris competition—goat’s milk tommes, and sérac)
daily from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., except Sunday mornings.
