"Sacre" Performance

Dancer, author, choreographer, and an icon of a particular vision of dance at the turn of the century, Daniel Larrieu has, for over 40 years, developed a choreographic vocabulary so rich that he categorizes its elements as they emerge, like items in a collection that never ceases to grow: gestures, danced actions, materials, texts… For there is a sense of play in Larrieu’s work, both in the playful and the mechanical sense. The performers have fun, and so do the audience members. Together with his collaborator, Sophie Billon—whose radiance and commitment lend strength to this solo—he creates a space for the imagination within Stravinsky’s monumental work, *The Rite of Spring*. With a silk scarf as her sole prop—which in turn becomes a veil, an apron, and a mask—the dancer wholeheartedly embraces the concept of a feminine, solo interpretation that takes on all roles, both masculine and feminine, to embody strength and determination. A true self-portrait expressed through dance.
