Station de la Sambuy, Le Vargnoz, 74210 Faverges-Seythenex

Description

Moderate difficulty hike starting from the Sambuy parking lot. The route leads to the Chalet de l’Aulp or Lô de Seythenex—“alpage” in Savoyard dialect—where you can enjoy views of the Bauges Massif, the Aravis Massif, and Lake Annecy.
Owned by the Abbey of Tamié from the 12th century, the Aulp de Seythenex alpine pasture is now the property of the Couchant communal section of Faverges-Seythenex. The buildings date back to the 19th century. During the summer, the chalets are occupied by an alpine herder, who manages a herd of goats or cows depending on the year. This trail crosses the National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve. The following are strictly prohibited: Dogs, even on a leash Camping Fires Motorized and non-motorized land vehicles Overflights below 300 meters Sound and light devices Disturbing the wildlife You also pass through a sensitive area that serves as a winter refuge for the Western Capercaillie and a nesting site for the Golden Eagle.
