Requiem(s), Debussy Quartet

Over the course of thirty years, the Debussy Quartet has been acclaimed around the world, consistently sharing its musical interpretations with the same passion on the most prestigious stages. Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross: two works with obvious connections, beginning with their shared roots in the space between—a dialogue between the human and the divine, between life and death, between heaven and earth. Perhaps because these two composers held each other in mutual admiration, it was with this same logic in mind that the Debussy Quartet chose to conceive this project. Though never performed together before, the connection is immediately apparent upon listening: so similar in their message, yet so different and complementary in their musical language. The result of this collaboration is astonishing: two incredible scenes, four artists on stage, four distinct presences, and above all, four solitudes that become one with the music. Candlelight that feels like a new challenge, woven from shadows and flashes of light, encounters and isolation—just like the music presented to us. In a space that is at once simple and meticulously crafted, the four musicians accord every breath, every glance, every moment of tension the full importance dictated by the demands of sacred music. The bar opens 1.5 hours before the show starts and offers gourmet snacks in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
