Climb the Petit Croisse Baulet, discovering the famous Roman milestones along the way.
Start the route from the forest road, in the Jorasse forest. After a shady stretch, the landscape opens up to the surrounding mountains: the Aravis range and the Mont-Blanc massif.
Arriving at Chalet de l'Avenaz, you'll have one last effort to make before reaching its pass, then continue on a balcony path to reach Petit Croisse Baulet. You'll have a bird's-eye view of the Mont-Blanc massif, the Aravis range and the village of La Giettaz.
From the Col de l'Avenaz, you'll come across three Bornes Romaines. But what is a Borne Romaine?
A Borne Romaine is an ancient feature of the landscape, used to demarcate the parish boundaries of communes.
Here's where to find the three Roman Bollards on your itinerary
- Col de l'Avenaz milestone
- Petit Croisse Baulet milestone
- Col du Jaillet milestone
Please note that these milestones are located in the open countryside and have no facilities or interpretation media to explain their history.
To find out more, we recommend the Association du Patrimoine de Cordon's book "Hier pour Demain", entitled "Des Bornes Romaines aux Alpages", on sale at Cordon Tourisme.
