The Flaine ski resort, which opened in 1967, features a chapel with unique architecture. The chapel and its furnishings have been designated a Historic Monument since 2014.

Inaugurated in 1973, the chapel is the only building in Flaine that is not made of concrete, but rather of wood and covered with slate. The upper part of the building is accentuated by ingenious channels that run around it and drain rainwater through the interior, eliminating the need for unsightly gutters and providing protection against freezing. The furnishings were designed by the resort’s architect, Marcel Breuer: a wooden altar and benches, and a bronze candlestick. Several works of art adorn the chapel’s walls: Buraglio’s “Ascent to Calvary” (1979), “Tabula” by Simon Hantaï (1980), and two acrylic paintings by Bernard Piffaretti (1991, 1992).
