Right in the heart of the old town, the museum reveals the many facets of a handicraft past that has left its mark on the village's history.
Since the Middle Ages, Alby-sur-Chéran has been intensely involved in the leather trades. For several centuries, shoemaking became the commune's main resource, providing a livelihood for many of its inhabitants.
Today, the Place du Trophée and its arcades, under which the shops once nestled, preserve the traces of this long tradition of craftsmanship, which disappeared from the commune in the 1970s.
Created in 1980 and renovated in 2015, the museum displays the various handmade tools, nails, galoshes and sewing machines left behind by the last craftsmen.
Guided tours for groups of 5 to 15 people by appointment.
