Description

This hike allows you to appreciate the beauty of the landscapes of the Plaine Joux Plateau, the Giffre mountains, and Mont Blanc, while strolling through Savoyard hamlets and alpine pastures.
Nestled between forests and alpine pastures, Plaine Joux reveals a history far older than its current image as a ski resort. Its name, which is said to mean “a forest on flat ground,” evokes the original landscapes of this high-altitude site, long shaped by pastoral traditions before becoming a recreational destination. As early as the 1930s, local residents discovered the joys of skiing here, drawn by an exceptional panorama overlooking the Mont Blanc massif. In 1965, Plaine Joux officially became a municipal ski resort, while retaining its accessible, family-friendly character. Today, the plateau is a destination for all seasons. In winter, its open spaces are ideal for cross-country skiing in a preserved natural setting. In summer, the alpine pastures and trails invite you to hike. Throughout the year, this plateau remains a special place for contemplation, relaxation, and the discovery of a unique panorama, where the mountains are experienced as much as they are admired.
