Its name, which is said to mean “a forest on flat ground,” evokes the original landscapes of this high-altitude site, long shaped by pastoral traditions before becoming a recreational destination. As early as the 1930s, local residents discovered the joys of skiing here, drawn by an exceptional panorama overlooking the Mont Blanc massif. In 1965, Plaine Joux officially became a municipal ski resort, while retaining its accessible, family-friendly character. Today, the plateau is a destination for all seasons.
