Hiking Trail: La Pierre à Voix (Limestone boulder)

From the hamlet of Outredière, the route crosses the forest to Les Pendants, where a short detour of around ten minutes leads to the Pierre à Voix. Visible from the valley, this striking limestone monolith gradually reveals itself as you make your way along the trail. Its name may spark curiosity: contrary to what you might imagine, it does not refer to an echo. Its old name in the local dialect, “Pierre Avouille”, means “Needle Rock”, referring to its distinctive shape. The Pierre à Voix is also a popular climbing site. This limestone monolith rises 45 metres high and features between 25 and 50 climbing routes, ranging from 4c to 7b. Climbers will find short routes on the north face and longer routes on the south face, with varied rock features. This outing offers a lovely way to discover the heights of the Sallanches hillside, combining forest, natural heritage and a local curiosity. For those wishing to extend the walk, it is possible to continue along the Gypaète Trail towards the Doran mountain pasture. Go hiking safely!
