Description

In 1561, Le Mont was the most populous hamlet in Servoz. Its location on the southern slope may explain this. As you stroll through the village today, you’ll learn about its history and that of Mandrins, which remain famous in people’s memories.
In 1561, the register for the collection of the salt tax provided the first census of Servoz’s population, which stood at 376 inhabitants. The hamlet of Le Mont accounted for two-thirds of the total number of houses and approximately two-thirds of the total number of people. There were 49 houses and 252 people in Le Mont. The hamlet’s geographical location on the sunny slope may partly explain this high population density. Today, as you wander through Le Mont, narrow streets, old farmhouses, the Maison du Lieutenant, the so-called “Revolutionary” fountain, and family inscriptions hidden here and there evoke its history and that of the Mandrins, who remain in people’s memories. Be sure to wear walking shoes and clothing suitable for the weather conditions. Cancelled in case of bad weather. Reservations required at the Servoz Tourist Office: +33 (0)4 50 47 21 68.
