Description
Accompanied by a Savoie Mont-Blanc Heritage guide, discover the incredible history of one of Europe's largest sanatoria and its remarkable buildings, which illustrate the technical and aesthetic genius of modern architecture.
Take a 3-hour tour of the various sanatoria on the Plateau d'Assy: move between Praz-Coutant, Guébriant and Martel de Janville, and discover the fascinating history of these emblematic buildings of Passy Mont-Blanc through explanations and anecdotes from the Savoie Mont-Blanc Heritage Guides. In particular, you'll have the opportunity to visit a former patient's room and the Martel de Janville chapel.
The former sanatoriums, the result of collaboration between doctors, hygienists and visionary architects, embody a new approach to living, emphasizing air, light and the environment. Their architecture, uncluttered and functional, reflects an aesthetic revival based on simple, uncluttered forms.
From the pavilion model to more compact structures, these buildings bear witness to the innovations implemented to meet therapeutic needs and take advantage of the modern techniques and materials of the time, such as reinforced concrete, linoleum and porcelain stoneware.
