Between the 18th and 19th centuries, the shores of Lake Geneva became a popular destination for writers, poets and thinkers of the Age of Enlightenment and Romanticism.
Nestling on the shores of the lake, Nernier still has the memory of these illustrious visitors, who found its landscapes an incomparable source of inspiration.
Accompanied by a Savoie Mont Blanc Heritage Guide, take a stroll along the Sentier des Romantiques (Romantic Trail), which winds its way through the narrow streets of the village to the port and castle. Frescoes, poems and quotations punctuate the trail, telling the story of such emblematic figures as Rousseau, Lamartine, Byron, Mary and Percy Shelley, Chateaubriand and Madame de Staël.
