Description

Catherine Tournay’s Digigraphies and Rémi Bara’s stencils are an invitation to travel. Exhibition organized in partnership with the Criou Livres association. On view during the media library's opening hours.
After studying at the School of Fine Arts in Nancy, Catherine Tournay and Rémi Bara (known as Réma Bari) both pursued artistic paths fueled by their passion for travel. They describe themselves as "backpacker" artists. For the past 50 years, they have regularly spent time in Samoëns, in both winter and summer. Catherine, an illustrator and painter for the advertising and publishing industries, presents fine art prints—numbered and signed *Digigraphies*—based on her acrylic paintings, all created using traditional brushwork (without any computer-generated elements). When creating her illustrations, Catherine sometimes works from her own photographs, selecting the composition, framing, layout, and color palette. Rémi employs the ancient technique of stenciling: The process involves cutting desired shapes out of cardboard—creating a separate stencil for each color. The colors are then applied using spray paint by layering the corresponding stencils. Achieving the final result requires layering between four and eight stencils; it is a process that demands great precision. For this exhibition, Catherine Tournay and Réma Bari invite you on a "JOURNEY." Through her fine art prints, Catherine Tournay takes us to Venice, New York, Sidi Bou Saïd, and Greece... as well as the Alps, featuring works like "Les Œufs Rouges de Vercland" and "Le Mont Blanc." Through his stencils, Réma Bari takes us to meet the Hamer, Māori, Kayapo, and Himba peoples... before bringing us back to Samoëns. All accompanied by a few surprising artistic detours.
