Description
Daphné Bérard was born at the foot of the mountains. Her imagination is nourished by her environmental, political and social commitments, and questions notions of substance, the narrative of place and object, and practices for transmitting memory.
"pastel entre des cîmes pastel" is an attempt to reconnect with a beloved place, particular experiences and sensations. Daphné Bérard's research is based on the predominantly rural territory of the Combe de Savoie, where she grew up, compared with the Arve Valley, where certain materials originate and where certain photographic and video works were produced. Both areas have in common the major geological catastrophes that have marked their history, and a structural fragility that can still present an unpredictable danger today. The territories are also fragmented or poisoned by policies of resource predation, and in places have become impermeable, impassable and literally unlivable.
