Description
From glaciers to tourism… From the earliest settlers to the present day, including Roman boundary markers, Cordon Castle, the historic church, traditional homes, the school, the crosses, and more…
The community of Cordon has always been very vibrant, as evidenced by the numerous legal disputes with neighboring alpine herders, which led to the Romans being required to demarcate the territories with stones marked “FINES.” That’s where the whole story begins...Lords who lived some distance away and a daily life made difficult by a “Little Ice Age.” The people of Cordon built homes suited to those long winter months under the snow, and as soon as possible, they erected a church in the center of the village, in the style of the time: Alpine Baroque.
Through the history of the very first mountain school in Savoie, the story of immigration is brought to light.
