Description
"Bach on the Beat" draws inspiration from the spirit of Johann Sebastian Bach's instrumental works for solo instruments and offers a decidedly contemporary approach to their musical expression.
By combining the sounds of Baroque instruments, the hip-hop energy of beatboxer Tiko, and the minimalist compositions of Clément Walker-Viry, this quartet of artists offers a timeless and poetic reinterpretation of J. S. Bach’s music. Enhanced and sequenced using a “looper” setup, the melodies of the venerable Baroque master take on an electronic feel, fitting into a resolutely contemporary aesthetic framework.
“Bach on the Beat” explores the relationship between historical interpretation and contemporary creation. Behind this challenge lies an oxymoron coupled with a question: is a new kind of early music possible? Or, to put it another way: is such “augmented” Baroque music likely to find an audience among a broader public—one that is, if possible, younger and more diverse than that of so-called “classical” music?
Rediscovering the spontaneity of this repertoire and sharing it widely is the challenge of Bach on the beat!
Rhythms, colors, and energy are the hallmarks of this creative and surprising project, which deliberately blurs boundaries and transcends established limits.
First part featuring students from the School of Music and Dance.
