In days gone by, Megève wool was renowned throughout Europe. With a guide from the Château des Rubins – Observatoire des Alpes, trace the history of this craft and discover a heritage deeply rooted in the mountains.
➡️ What to experience / try
Give the spinning wheel a go, learn the techniques of wool working and make your own yarn. During the activity, you’ll also explore a often-overlooked aspect of biodiversity through farm animals, notably the local Thônes and Marthod sheep breeds, which have been saved from extinction.

Ages 5 and over. An ideal activity for families, curious visitors and anyone wishing to discover the traditional skills and heritage of the Alps.

Participants will learn about the history of wool in the Alps, observe traditional spinning techniques, try their hand at the spinning wheel and experience the different stages of making wool yarn, whilst discussing local breeds and their conservation.
