Biathlon World Cup

Winter magic in Le Grand-Bornand

From 15 to 21 December 2025, the Haut-Savoyarde resort will once again host the prestigious BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup, on the Sylvie Becaert International Stadium, named after the local champion of the 2000s. This 6ᵉ French edition confirms the resort’s place in the international calendar.

A not-to-be-missed stop on the world circuit

Annecy-Le Grand-Bornand has established itself as one of the most popular biathlon World Cup events, with athletes and spectators alike, and is one of the top 5 most popular venues on the circuit, owing its reputation to a unique blend of top-class sporting performances, a spectacular setting between mountains and chalets, and a rare closeness between the public and the racers. At the 2024 event, more than 67,000 spectators turned out, including 3,500 schoolchildren invited by the local authorities to discover this demanding discipline combining cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. This record attendance is no coincidence: in Le Grand-Bornand, everything has been designed to ensure that the event is an intense experience, from the heated and lively grandstands to the trackside areas where the athletes are cheered on as close to the action as possible. The atmosphere is electric: spectator bells ring out, flags wave, and every shot fired from the firing point provokes a wave of reactions in the stadium. The athletes themselves regularly praise the local fervour, underlining just how much this French leg is synonymous with human warmth… despite the cold winter.

Equipment to match the show

The Sylvie Becaert stadium is currently the only one in France to hold an A licence from the International Biathlon Union (IBU), a guarantee of compliance with the most demanding standards on the circuit. It has a 30-target shooting range and penalty zones that are clearly visible to the public, making it easy to keep track of the races. The tracks are designed to offer both a sporting challenge and a chance to immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery of the Aravis mountains. The compact layout of the site means that the public can follow the main thrust of the race without losing the thread, creating the unique sensation of a “biathlon on a human scale” where everything is lived intensely. The infrastructure has also been designed with sustainability in mind: respect for the environment, integration into the landscape and energy optimisation are among the commitments made by the resort. It’s this combination of sporting performance, proximity to spectators and respect for the natural environment that has earned the resort the nickname of the “Monaco of biathlon”… except that here, snow-capped peaks replace yachts.
