Au Bonheur des Mômes

Au Bonheur Des Mômes

Every late summer, in the heart of the Aravis mountains, the village of Le Grand-Bornand is transformed into a huge playground where laughter, poetry and creativity intermingle. From 24 to 28 August 2025, the Au Bonheur des Mômes festival will be celebrating its 33ᵉ edition, true to its reputation as one of Europe’s unmissable events for live entertainment for young audiences. Since its creation in 1992 by the Théâtre de la Toupine and the local authority, it has blended the mischievous spirit of the acrobats with a demanding programme that is open to the world and to all artistic forms.

2025, the year of the "Zanimals

This year’s theme is “Zanimal”. It’s a theme that highlights the instinctive and joyful bond that children have with animals, and inspires some twenty shows combining feathers, fur and scales. Giant puppets, clowns, burlesque theatre, participatory installations or illuminated walks: wildlife invites itself on stage to arouse curiosity and, sometimes, to question our relationship with living things. Creations such as Poil de la bête by Compagnie des Plumés, in which dogs, hens and ducks share the stage with an improvising pianist, and Princesse Jenny qui ne voulait pas se marier by Gina Gagap, twist the codes of storytelling and animal shows with humour and tenderness.

 Thought-provoking encounters

The festival also includes meetings, debates and workshops to extend the artistic experience. Belgian philosopher and writer Vinciane Despret, this year’s special guest, will be in conversation with psychoanalyst Sophie Marinopoulos at a conference on the subject of “Making children with animals”. The fifty or so workshops on offer this year encourage parents to get together and create with their children, in line with the festival’s slogan: “Let go of your screens, come and see something alive!

A rich, international programme

In the pedestrianised streets of Grand-Bornand, 73 companies from twelve countries will be performing indoors, under big tops and outdoors, for a total of over 400 performances. The festival is also a non-stop affair, with play areas, ecological rides, exhibitions and meetings with the artists. The closing parade, led by the luminous creatures of Compagnie Zappar and set alight by the pyrotechnicians of Imaziren, promises a spectacular finale “between dog and wolf”.

An enchanted interlude before the start of the new school year

Au Bonheur des Mômes is not just a festival. It’s a bubble of fresh air and emotion, a living manifesto for cultural diversity, wonder and transmission. It’s a tender, joyful break before the start of the new school year, where we come to applaud, have fun, reflect… and above all, not to be too wise.
