Waterfalls, heritage and unspoilt nature

Nestling in the heart of the Giffre massif, Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is a village in Haute-Savoie where time seems to stand still. With its breathtaking cliffs, bubbling waterfalls and religious heritage, Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is one of France’s Most Beautiful Villages and a true immersion in the soul of the Alps.

Not to be missed A living heritage in the heart of the mountains

Nestling in a natural setting, Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is a jewel of the Haut-Savoyard heritage. Its abbey, founded in the XIIᵉ century, its chapels, oratories and mazots bear witness to a deeply-rooted mountain past. Every stone, every fountain tells of life in days gone by, shaped by the seasons and Alpine traditions. Here, time seems to stand still, inviting contemplation. Far from the hustle and bustle, the village has a peaceful, authentic atmosphere. Nature and culture meet in harmony. Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is more than just a setting: it’s a place of emotion, where you come to slow down, feel… and leave inspired.

Experience Le Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval

An immense natural limestone amphitheatre 4 to 5 km in circumference, the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval dominates the Giffre valley with its cliffs rising to 2,000 m, backed by the Tenneverge massif (2,985 m). In spring, more than thirty waterfalls gush out of the cliffs, including the famous Lyre, Pissevache and the Queen of the Alps, the Rouget waterfall, creating a spectacular aquatic spectacle. Part of the Sixt-Passy national nature reserve, the site is officially protected and marks the entrance to one of the largest and most diverse natural areas in Haute-Savoie. Accessible on foot along well-marked paths, it invites you to discover the area in a relaxing or sporty way. Raw, majestic nature, a living heritage.
