Plateau des Glières

Nature preserved and living memory

Perched at an altitude of 1440 metres, in the heart of the Bornes massif, between the Auges and Frêtes mountains, the Plateau des Glières reveals a striking landscape. After the twists and turns of the mountain roads, visitors reach a vast area of high meadows, coniferous forests and limestone ridges. A haven of peace, unspoilt and silent, seemingly suspended between heaven and earth.

Not to be missed A powerful symbol of the Resistance

The Plateau des Glières is not just a remarkable natural site: it is also a place of national remembrance. In 1944, it was the scene of one of the most significant actions of the French Resistance. Resistance fighters from all over the region came together to organise opposition to the Nazi occupiers. Their courage and sacrifice left an indelible mark on local and national history. Today, a commemorative monument, an interpretation centre and themed trails help us to understand this heritage, pay tribute to it and pass on the memory of these events to future generations.

Experience An experience combining silence, sport and emotion

To walk on the Plateau des Glières is to experience a moment out of time. Here, history interacts with the landscape. By following in the footsteps of the Resistance fighters or simply contemplating the mountains, visitors experience a rare emotion. It’s a powerful place to reflect and discover, but also to relax and recharge your batteries. Whether you’re with the family, friends or on your own, there’s something for everyone: sporty, contemplative or meditative. The Plateau des Glières is a deeply human place, where nature, memory and freedom come together in striking harmony.
