Museum of Watchmaking and Screw-cutting

Guardian of time and local industry

Immerse yourself in the industrial and social history of the Arve Valley at the Musée de l’Horlogerie et du Décolletage. This unique site traces the fascinating development of the skills of peasant watchmakers from the eighteenth century through to the rise of screw-cutting, the driving force behind the local industrial revolution.

Not to be missed An exceptional industrial and watchmaking heritage

Created in the early 20th century by the École Nationale d’Horlogerie de Cluses, the museum’s initial mission was to conserve old time-measuring instruments, including a rare piece dating back to the 16th century, and to preserve the memory of this flourishing industry. Now housed in the Espace Carpano & Pons, an emblematic former industrial site, it presents a comprehensive overview of this local tradition, highlighting in particular a unique collection of escapement models made in Cluses, a veritable feat of horological engineering.
