Mechanical Music Museum

A symphony without a conductor

Just a stone’s throw from the shores of Lake Geneva, an unsuspected world awaits you. Here, music is not played with fingers, but with cogs, perforated cardboard, bellows and gears. The Museum of Mechanical Music, a veritable benchmark in Europe, brings together nearly 1,000 instruments in a collection that is as unique as it is fascinating. A sensory journey where you can listen with your ears as well as your eyes.

Not to be missed Machines that bring music to life

The tour is divided into two parts and two buildings. The first, a guided tour, plunges you into the fascinating world of mechanical music: chimes, player pianos, orchestrions, automatic violins and barrel organs come to life before your very eyes. The instruments, veritable masterpieces of ingenuity, play the melodies of yesteryear while the enthusiastic guides share anecdotes and manufacturing secrets. In the second building, the discovery continues with free access, through an immersive and playful scenography. Automata, talking machines, early sound films and a funfair atmosphere tell the story of the development of mechanical music. It’s a captivating journey of emotion, curiosity and wonder, for young and old alike.
