Come and explore the village of Frangy, its ‘Grand Pont’ bridge, inaugurated in 1677 under the reign of Victor Amédée II, Duke of Savoy, and its Sardinian neoclassical church dating from 1844.
Close to Annecy and Geneva, Frangy is situated in the valley of the river ‘Les Usses’, where you can enjoy trout fishing.
On a walk, cycle or horse ride, you can cross the river over the ‘Grand Pont’ bridge, inaugurated in 1677 under the reign of Victor Amédée II, Duke of Savoy.
A starting point for a number of hiking trails, the town is crossed by the famous Santiago de Compostela (GR 65®) route, used by many pilgrims who begin their journey in Geneva, passing through Le Puy-en-Velay before reaching their final destination in Spain.
The Sardinian neoclassical church dates back to 1844 and features a Jacobean stained-glass window created in 2004.
The sunny hillsides, enhanced in summer by the song of the cicadas, are ideal for growing vines to produce a white wine called ‘La Roussette de Savoie Cru Frangy’, which was awarded the AOC label in 1973. Tradition has it that ‘L'Altesse’, the plant from which this wine is made, was brought here from Cyprus by the Crusaders. Jean-Jacques Rousseau mentioned this vintage in his autobiography ‘Les Confessions’: "... and the Frangy wine, which I thought was excellent, presented such a victorious argument that I would have been ashamed to close my mouth to such a good host..."
