A hike between forest and high-altitude pasture with charming alpine hamlets. With views of the Mont-Blanc massif, Les Ayères lies at the foot of the impressive limestone wall of Les Fiz. Avalanche-prone, caution is advised.
From Passy Plaine-Joux, climb up through the resort to Barmus on the carriage path. Continue on a flat traverse passing through Ayères des Rocs and Ayères d'en-Haut. Arriving at Ayères des Pierrières, you pass alongside the Passy Nature Reserve. Home to exceptional flora and fauna in a diversity of mountain ecosystems, this area is protected and regulated. Please take good care of it. Continue downhill to the Chalets du Souay and the Châtelet d'Ayères refuge. Continue downhill to Lac Vert and then back to the starting point.
Warning: this route passes through avalanche-prone areas. Before setting off, check the avalanche bulletins. It's also advisable to be equipped with an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe. For added safety, you can also hire a mountain guide.
