The city opened up, expanded and underwent rapid transformation from the early 19th century onwards.
A whole neo-classical district was born, imposing its Antiquity-inspired presence: triangular pediments, pilasters, columns and porticos mark the style of the Grenette, the new grain market (1831). This was followed by the Hôtel de Ville, built between 1841 and 1847. In 1850, ten years before Savoie became French, the old town center in front of the church was linked to the new one in front of the town hall by an opening lined with stone arcades.
