Let's go to the best-insulated house in the world! Discover how the inhabitants of the Far North used to build their homes, create your own igloo as a team game and learn more about the superpowers of this extraordinary house.
Let's dive into the heart of one of the most ingenious dwellings ever imagined. The igloo, often perceived as a simple snow house, is in fact a true marvel of ingenuity, perfectly adapted to the extreme conditions of the Far North.
During the activity, participants discover how Arctic peoples have taken advantage of their environment to build shelters, protect themselves from the cold and live in sometimes freezing temperatures. Natural insulation, wind resistance, heat management: the igloo gradually reveals its surprising superpowers.
Then it's time for action with the construction of an igloo as a team game!
Supervised by the Centre de la Nature Montagnarde, participants learn two complementary construction techniques. The traditional method, using precisely cut and assembled blocks of snow, provides an understanding of the historical foundations of this architecture. The second approach, known as the ‘Russian’ method, is faster and more fun, offering another way to build this unusual house.
This activity is educational, friendly and participatory, combining cultural discovery, ancestral know-how and the pleasure of building together in the mountains.
