Henry-Jacques Le Même, creator of the Megevan chalet, associated city life, refinement and mountain rusticity. With a great talent, this mountain architect accomplished a considerable work through his life, to be discovered in the village streets...
The last century Mègevan architecture is dominated by the figure of Henry-Jacques Le-Même. Since the creation in 1927, for Baroness Noémie de Rothschild chalet freely inspired by the farms of the region, the brilliant architect has been considered the inventor of the skier's chalet, comfortable, functional and widely open to the surrounding landscape. His work largely contributed to defining individual mountain dwellings in the first half of the century.
The resort owes him many other chalets but also hotels, schools, shops, bars, dance halls ...
Three of the chalets he had built in Megève (La Croix-des-Perchets in 1928, the Grizzly in 1932 and the Cairn in 1941) now benefit from the 20th Century Heritage label in Rhône-Alpes issued by the Ministry of Culture. Thanks to Henry-Jacques Le Even, Megève remains the symbol of the art of living in the mountains of a brilliant society to which he offered his architectural identity.
