Educational walk: Where does the water from Bise go?

Elevation : 1500m
Alpage de Bise - Géosite, route de Bise, 74360 Vacheresse
A day exploring the traces left by water in the landscape, between lakes and invisible paths. Discover how man has used the site: mountain pastures, quarrying, etc.
At the start of the hike, students will have to find out where the water in Lac de Fontaine comes from. The group will then head back up to Lac de Bise, where the evolution of the lake over time will be explained. They'll see how the lake "leaks". They will then discover the village of Bise and its mountain pasture. The climb up to the Pas de la Bosse provides an opportunity to explain the formation of the landscape (sedimentation, tectonic movements and erosion over geological time).
After a picnic lunch, students descend to Combe au Trot, where they can observe fossilized traces of marine animals. They will have to use their new knowledge to explain the appearance of the north face of Mont Chauffé. Crossing the alpine pastures of Mens and Chevennes, they will talk about pastoral activity and agriculture in the valley, as well as the use of local materials. Return to the Plagnes parking lot in La Chapelle d'Abondance, where a summary of the day's activities (including a model of the Cornettes massif and Mont Chauffé) will be offered, time permitting.

Outing duration: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - 500 m elevation gain, 900 m elevation loss
Departure and arrival in different places: departure from Lac des Fontaines (Vacheresse), return from "Les Plagnes" (La Chapelle d'Abondance), at the via ferrata parking lot. Moderate-sized bus recommended.
Don't forget: picnic, shoes and clothing suitable for mountain hiking (fleece, windbreaker, even in summer), cap, glasses, water, notebook, pencil, etc.
