Of Italian origin, Walter Comelli arrived in Annemasse as a child and has since been actively involved in the town's cultural life.
A painter, he was a Maître-laqueur for 40 years and was awarded the Grand Prix
Grand Prix Départemental des Métiers d'Art in 1981 for his work as a "Maître-laqueur". Commissioned when the school was built, this work represents the "fight against discouragement and gloom".
