In addition to the visit to the château's exhibitions, the children's group will take part in a workshop with a mediator, focusing on the history of colors (plants, dyes, pigments).
This workshop explores how colors were made in the Middle Ages. The aim is to raise children's awareness of the close link between the environment and history, and the symbolism of colors.
The workshop takes place in 4 stages:
- in small groups, pupils are given natural, mineral or vegetable materials. It's up to them to associate these materials with colors by deduction, and to report their findings to the class.
- Students test the first step in the color-making process (extraction from the material by grinding or rubbing, etc.).
- presentation of how ink and pigments are made
- each group is assigned a color and reflects on its symbolism...
Pedagogical objectives :
- Discover how colors were obtained in the Middle Ages
- Understand that colors have an eventful history, often reflecting changing mentalities
- Understand the influence of historical context on artistic creation
- Carry out a step in the process of obtaining color
- Work in a team
